St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest drinking days of the year. If you wake up unsure of how many green beers, Irish car bombs or shots of whiskey you drank, you may be in need of a hangover cure. Typical hangover symptoms include nausea, sensitivity to light and a headache. Hangovers occur when your liver is trying to clear out excessive amounts of chemicals and toxins ingested from too much alcohol. Here are some helpful hints to help you recover the morning after St. Patrick’s Day.

Hydrate

Hangovers are caused by changes in body chemistry and the toxic chemicals in alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic, which can leave you dehydrated. Changes your body’s chemistry can also cause you to lose water, so it’s important to hydrate in order to avoid a pounding headache the next day. Remember for every pint of beer, drink a glass of water.

Toast and crackers are great hangover foods, they are bland, absorb the alcohol and since they are carbohydrates, they help raise blood sugar to get rid of your headache.
