Great South Bay Brewery from Bay Shore, Spider Bite Beer Co. from Holbrook and Barrage Brewing Company from Farmingdale are heading to Denver, Colorado to represent the Long Island craft beer scene at GABF. Barrage Brewing Company is pouring several dessert inspired beers at GABF. Assault N’ Fudgery, a salted caramel fudge porter, won a bronze medal at the 2018 World Beer Cup in Nashville, TN, hopefully this beer will bring home a gold medal in the chocolate category at GABF. Barrage will be pouring Who’s a Good Boy, a chocolate raspberry Russian Imperial stout, which is reminiscent of chocolate covered raspberry jelly rings. Be sure to stop by the Barrage Brewing booth at GABF and indulge in these decadent beers.

The brewers at Great South Bay are veterans at GABF. Their Jetty Ale, a cream ale brewed with orange blossom honey, is returning to GABF to try to reclaim the gold. The Jetty Cream Ale won a gold medal at GABF in 2016 and silver in 2017. Great South Bay is also competing in some new categories this year. Nauti Girl, a New England IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin Hops is entered in the Hazy IPA category.

GSB also entered the GABF Pro-Am competition. Homebrewer, Bernard Ramchatesingh from the Handgrenades Homebrew Club, was selected be GSB’s 2018 GABF Pro-Am entry. Ramchatesingh brewed “Pon De Flor,” a traditional gose ale brewed with hibiscus, giving it a striking reddish-pink color which is sure to attract attention from the judges.

Spider Biter Beer Co is known for crafting strong and unique beers. At the second annual New York Craft Beer Competition in Buffalo, Spider Bite Beer Co took home a Gold Medal in the Imperial Stout and Porter category for Boris the Spider. Hopefully, Spider Bite can duplicate their success at GABF in the Imperial stout sub category British. Melba Toasted Brown Ale, named after Melissa “Melba” Barrett, the graphic artist who brought spider alive through her can designs, will be entered in the brown ale category. Crawl over to the Spider Bite Beer Co both and sample these spider inspired beers.
